About CarHenry

CarHenry gives used-car buyers in the United States a ten-dollar way to check a car before they pay for it: a free VIN decode, then a report built from official safety records and live market prices.

Who runs it

CarHenry is an independent service. We build and maintain our own VIN decoder and record matching rather than reselling one upstream provider's feed, which is why every section of the report can name where its data came from.

What we hold and what we don't

Our reports draw on NHTSA's vPIC decoder, recall campaigns, owner complaints and crash-test ratings, public market listings, and our own decoder tables. They do not include title brands, accident or insurance claims, odometer history, service records or theft status, and the report says so in its own words. We would rather lose the sale than let a buyer think a gap was checked when it wasn't. Data sources in detail.

What we are not

We are not affiliated with any vehicle manufacturer, dealer group, CARFAX, AutoCheck, NHTSA or any state DMV. Government data in the report is used under the terms of the agency that publishes it and is named as such. CARFAX and AutoCheck are trademarks of their respective owners.

How we treat your data

The VIN and e-mail you give us are kept with your report so you can reopen it. Analytics on this site are first-party; we do not sell data. Privacy policy.
